The Hague or as referred by the natives of the Netherlands, Den Haag, is their third largest city. It is the city where the country’s government is seated and the Royal Family lives. The International court of Justice is based in The Hague and so are various other headquarters of government and international organizations like ministries as well as embassies. The Peace Palace
A brick building from 1907-1913, the Peace Palace is a hybrid of Gothic and Neoclassical architecture and houses the International Court of Justice, Academy of Internal Law and a library. The beautiful interiors are decorated with materials from Italy, Germany, Brazil and the USA.
Panorama Mesdag
A painting of 120 metres by 14 metres is housed in a rotunda and is called the Panorama Mesdag. It depicts a coastal Scheveningen from1880 and creates a three dimensional illusion.
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag
This museum appeals to all architecture lovers and shall not be missed. It was designed in1935 by HP Berlage and there is a wide array of materials in use. Haagse Bos and Huis ten Bosch Haagse Bos can very well be called the best of the open spaces which The Hague has to over and it runs for two kilometres and comprises of beautiful avenues. It starts from the old city centre and goes all the way to Wassernaar.
The Prison Gate Museum
The prison gate museum is situated on the north side on the Binnenhof and was built in 1296 as a structure which served as a gatehouse. It was later converted to a prison in the 15th century, and the de Witt brothers were murdered here in 1672 on account of an assassination attempt of Prince William III.
The Mauritshuis
This building was a residence which followed the classical style of architecture in 1641 and has now turned into an important museum. There are plenty of valuable paintings, objects and curios which can be seen.
Scheveningen Resort and Kurhaus
Scheveningen is the best place for people looking to unwind at The Hague because of its sea beach and the sea facing promenade. The choices that the vacationers get range from horse-riding, a game of golf, a fishing trip or just a simple walk.
The Binnenhof
The oldest section of The Hague can be related to this building. It houses the ruling royal family and today serves the chambers of the Parliament.
